Rogue was a Playboy imitator but so were 80% of all girlie magazines that started in the 1950s so that can't be held against them. Rogue had higher than average production standards and the early painted covers with the libidinous Wolf mascot are quiet eye-catching. In the 1960s Rogue became an interesting writer's colony for science fiction and fantasy writers. Two of its editors were sci-fi writers Harlan Ellison and Frank Robinson. Robert Bloch, Aflred Bester, and Mack Reynolds all had regular columns, articles and fiction published. Charles Beaumont, William F. Nolan and Robert Silverberg also popped up sometimes. Many of these authors worked for Playboy so I imagine the Rogue editors got a lot of submissions with Hugh Hefner's fingerprints on them.
