This is the first issue of a girlie magazine designed for a Negro male audience. It may also be the first such magazine. I've never seen an earlier one.
"The Last White Man" science fiction story by Ray Bradbury about white people landing on Mars after escaping an atomic war on Earth. Mars was populated only by Negroes who had been exiled there years before, and they weren't happy about white people moving into the neighboorhood. See below. This story was first published as The Other Foot in the Bradbury book The Illustrated Man from 1951, but strangely, there is no copyright notice.
"School For Skins" article on drummers by Gene Krupa. Full page b&w photo of Krupa playing drums + 1 b&w photo each of Zutty Singleton, Max Roach, Gene Krupa.
Bill Ward 2 large b&w cartoons.
"Four Button Man" 4 photos of Sammy Davis, Jr. modeling clothes, holding a camera and holding a Sarah Vaughan record album.
"Introducing The Duchess Of The Month" 2 page color centerfold + 7 b&w photos of Eleanor Crews, this issue's cover model.
"Augus Afternoon" fiction by Southern writer Erskine Caldwell.
"Fight Factory" 12 photos of boxer Eddie Allen at the Joe Louis Gym in Chicago.
"Sugar Brown" ficton by Langston Hughes.
